Introduction of Design Guideline for Underground Structures in Rock Mass

Synopsis

The Society for Rock Mechanics and Engineering Geology (SRMEG) is pleased to announce the official release of the “Design Guideline for Underground Structures in Rock Mass.” While current local practices often bypass a dedicated rock mechanics approach, this new guideline establishes a general procedure for design and construction procedures tailored specifically to rock mass environments. This presentation will provide an in-depth look at the guideline's practical applications, demonstrating how to integrate these standardized procedures into existing workflows to enhance the precision and safety of underground projects.

Speaker

Dr. LEE Young Zoo has more than 30 years’ experience of tunnel and geotechnical engineering works in various countries like Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, UAE and Korea as a contractor, consultant and researcher. He finished his bachelor and master in Seoul National University, Korea and PhD in Technical University of Graz, Austria. He is currently a principal engineer in Geoconsult Asia Singapore Pte. Ltd. and has been working mainly for MRT projects, cable tunnel projects in Singapore and oil storage cavern project in UAE.

Time and Place

The presentation will take place electronically on Thursday, 16^th July 2026 at 18:30 hrs. The presentation will take approximately 45 minutes, follow by 15 minutes of questions/discussion.

Invitation

This is the 272^nd in a series of presentations by TUCSS and is open to current TUCSS Members only. Seats are on first-come-first-served basis and limited to 500 persons.

Registration

Individual Members and Corporate Members (limited to 5 registrations only) are to sign up for the seminar via the registration link. A confirmation email with seminar details and how to access the seminar will be sent to the members who has successfully signed up for the seminar. The deadline for registration is on Monday, 10 June 2026 or when total registered participants reach 500 whichever comes earlier.

Attendance Policy

Please note that we will only issue the Certificate of Attendance to TUCSS Member who qualified the policy below:

• Valid TUCSS Member
• Join the seminar using registered email only
• Login at the beginning of the seminar (link will be assessable at 18:15 hours)
• Evidence of participation by video switched on throughout the seminar
• Complete the quiz at the end of the seminar before logging out. The duration for the quiz is 15mins.

Certificate of Attendance will be uploaded to the member’s account after the compliance to the Attendance Policy is verified.
