As-built TBM Automated Surveying Technology using Unmanned Segment
Roundness Measurement System

Abstract
The construction industry is currently facing an increasing demand for unmanned data acquisition processes instead of manual surveying during tunnel excavation. The automatic segment roundness measurement system, which was presented at the UGS 2021 conference, has been improved and provided a powerful solution to address this issue. This system leverages a laser distance meters to automatically measure the horizontal and vertical deviations from the original tunnel-segment position in addition to the tunnel roundness. As a result, it is capable of capturing the changes in these deviations and roundness with the tunnel advance, enabling the real-time visualization of the as-built tunnel structure for both the contractor and the client. By concurrently monitoring the TBM machine position, the system can additionally track changes in tail clearance. This information can be promptly utilized by the contractor to prevent interference between the machine and the segments during tunnel assembly and excavation, thereby avoiding segment cracks and water leakage and finally ensuring high-quality tunnel construction. Furthermore, the newly developed as-built TBM automated surveying technology can be integrated with the ARiGATAYA system (provided by Enzan Koubou Co. Ltd), which is frequently employed in TBM tunnel projects in Singapore.
