Challenges during Diaphragm
wall construction

Abstract
This presentation focusses on case studies of significant challenges which can be encountered during the construction of diaphragm walls (D-Walls) in Singapore and globally. D-Walls are underground structural elements commonly used as earth retention systems, permanent foundation walls and groundwater barriers for large and deep underground structures. We will discuss current solutions and suggestions for enhanced control and supervision during the construction of D-Walls.
Speaker
Michel Bock is a leading geotechnical specialist in COWI with more than 30 years of experience in supervision of complex geotechnical works for large infrastructure projects. This includes supervision of diaphragm wall and bored secant pile construction, supervision and analysis of micropiles construction and testing, design and supervision of groundwater control systems and grouting (permeation grouting, jet grouting, compensation grouting, soil mixing).
Michel was
lead geotechnical specialist for the COWI Singapore team delivering the
detailed design of DTSS2 T0-09 in Singapore. He led the design and supervision
of the groundwater control and grouting of this challenging project. His
extensive experience on other COWI projects include, Hong Kong Zhuhai Macau
Link, China , Third Runvway, Chek Lap Kok
Airport, Hong Kong, Canakkale 1915 Bridge, Turkey, second Ishwar Gupta
bridge, India, Red Line North Metro, Qatar and Cityringen Metro, Denmark.

The presentation will take place
electronically on Thursday, 21 January 2021 at 18:30 hrs.
The presentation will be approximately 45 minutes long, with 15 minutes of
questions/discussion afterwards.

This is
the 221st in a series of presentations by TUCSS and is open to valid
TUCSS Members only. Seats are on first-come-first-served basis and limited to
500 persons.
